Building Information
history
900 West Hastings was built in 1966 for Bank of Canada. The architectural style of the building is unique in the downtown core and typical for institutional buildings of that vintage.
The exterior of the building is clad with precast finished concrete panels and columns. Bronze was used for all building metals. Bank of Canada occupied large parts of the building until 1997, when it sold the building to the present owner.
In 1999 and 2000, the building underwent extensive interior and exterior renovations. The lower floors were converted to retail space. The main lobby, elevators and elevator lobbies were upgraded with high quality materials.
From 2006 to 2010, a further upgrade program was carried out that included the modernization of many building systems including the elevator controls, fire alarm system, public announcement system, the security, card access and CCTV systems, and direct digital control system (mechanical). While the character of the building has been maintained, the building systems are now modern and state of the art.
